Helping young professionals succeed in work and life

David Koutsoukis is an expert in Leadership and Team Development and currently the President of the WA Chapter of the National Speakers Association. You can check out his website at www.davidkoutsoukis.com

Here are his answers to a few questions I asked him.

What work do you do currently?
Speaker, facilitator, consultant, author in the area of Leadership and Team Development

What's the most important thing have you learnt from your career journey so far?
Relationships are the foundation of all success. Try to be on good terms with ALL people (it’s less stressful and you don’t burn bridges or have people damaging your reputation) - and develop quality relationships with two groups of people: 1 - Family and friends who will provide you with emotional support, and 2. A solid network of business/work associates such as colleagues, customers, clients, bosses and mentors who will help you achieve your work/career goals. The saying “It’s not what you know, but who you know” really is true.

What are your areas of expertise/knowledge that you could help others with?
I partner with organisations to help them improve results by attracting and retaining a focused, engaged and capably led workforce; and by building positive, productive and high performing teams.
Specifically I help organisations:
• Attract and retain the right people
• Improve employee engagement
• Boost morale and motivation
• Enhance team relationships
• Build a positive team culture
• Improve systems and processes
• Boost team performance and results
• Enhance managerial and leadership skills
• Become an employer of choice
• Increase productivity and profit

What are some tips for young professionals trying to make it in your industry?
The nine key points I make in my “Your Brilliant Life” program are relevant for any industry:

Part 1. The Present

Step 1. Decision Make the decision to live a brilliant life and have a brilliant career.
Step 2. Reflection Take the time to reflect upon how your life and career is going.
Step 3. Gratitude Be grateful for what you already have.

Part 2. The Future

Step 4. Clarity Be clear about what your brilliant life looks and feels like (determine your values and set goals)
Step 5. Action Take action steps towards living your brilliant life.
Step 6. Focus Keep your actions focussed on your values and goals.

Part 3. The Journey

Step 7. Balance Strive to keep your life in balance.
Step 8. Connection Maintain positive connections with those who support you physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
Step 9. Thoughts Keep your thoughts positive and focussed upon what you want your brilliant life to look and feel like.
