Helping young professionals succeed in work and life

Do you bask in positivity or dwell in the land of the negative?

Do you jump out of bed in the morning and seize the day, or do you slump out of bed and drag yourself through the day, wishing for it to be over?

Do you see the glass as half full, or do you see it as half empty?

Your experiences, education and personality help shape your attitude to everything around you. And your attitude will affect how you think, feel and behave.  So it goes without saying that developing a positive attitude can really help change your life!

‘I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.’

- Jimmy Dean

Of course, even with a positive attitude at times it may seem like the whole world is out to get you, and so all you want to do is get the day over with so you can curl up in a ball on the couch.

So here’s some tips to help you develop - and hold onto - that positive attitude:

  • Surround yourself with positive people.
  • Meditate.
  • Exercise.
  • Use positive affirmations and stop the negative self talk!
  • Have a plan.
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff.
  • Smile.
  • Laugh.
  • Help someone in need.
  • Bypass the evening news.
  • Use positive words. Instead of ‘I can’t’ say ‘I can’!

Remember:

‘Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.’

- Winston Churchill

Good for you Isabel. I hope the job is going well! It's been too long.

So true Monica. I feel that way about my fave Big Issue man in the city. Every time I see him he does not fail to bring a smile to my dial. Last week he cheered me up so much that I found myself walking through the malls on the way to way with a huge grin and just feeling damn good!

so TRUE. showing gratitude changes attitude. i figured this one out when i was having a slump lack of sleep feeling very switched off kind of day. working in a team the way i think everyone does these days, you tend to take for granted that people do things around you for you. on such a day, i swivel from my chair and over hear how our ward clark has batted off an issue i would have had to deal with. i smile. suddenly i am overcome with gratitude. my attitude suddenly changed. it was awesome

Great uplifting post Janine!

Sometimes people do not realise how their negativity impacts the moods of others. And likewise, with positivity. I remember having a terrible morning and out of the blue, my friend popped around my desk with a smile so wide that I could not help but smile and feel better about the day. Attitude certainly makes a whole load of difference.
