Profile Information

About Me:
I am a Sri Lankan born, Australian based freelance journalist and editor. I am trying to get ahead in publishing and journalism and I am currently writing my first novel (but second book). I am a gamer, a bad drummer, a good cook and great dancer and an avid bibliophile. I write about science, technology, music, games, philosophy, books, popular culture, and health as part of my journalism work. Perth, Australia is my third place of residence so far and I am hoping to move to Paris. It's not high on the list but one day I hope to be reasonably fluent in French, Dutch, Japanese and possibly Korean. At the moment my first language is English and my second is Sinhala.
What type of work do you do?
I am a freelance journalist and editor.
What leadership/career/community activities have you been involved in?
I have been a board member of the State Literature Board Writing WA and I am currently the membership officer and website admin for the Society of Editors (WA). I also help out with the Freelance Committee for the WA Journalist Association and I am a member of the MEAA.

Welcome to the yGen club!

yGen is more than a website it’s a community. There are lots of resources to have a look through on the yGen community - articles, ebooks, discussions and videos. Please read the community guidelines section to get started here. Yet the real benefit of membership to the yGen community is in the interaction. We hold face to face events in Perth, webinars across Australia as well as giving you the opportunity to
- Add or comment on blogs
- Ask a question on the forums
- Promote a volunteering or career development opportunity
- Join and participate in your state group

First of all, complete your profile and start getting involved in the discussions. You will start to receive a fortnightly newsletter to let you know of new info on the website including events, posts, competitions and new mentors.

So what goals can ygen help you achieve?

Please feel free to recommend the yGen club to your friends by clicking on the Invite tab at the top.

Enjoy!

Someone who inspires me...

You might think I am very hard to please. Maybe that's true. I don't know.

What I do know is you could toss names like "Gandhi", "Mother Theresa" and so on at me and it wouldn't matter one bit to me. They are all great people and have done wonderful work but...

 ...they don't inspire me.

It's not one person or several people who inspire me.

See, I am an editor, I must therefore be true to my profession and read books, own cats and…

Hi everyone,

I thought I'd post this here.

The Society of Editors (WA) is looking for a graphic designer (preferably Perth based but we're not fussy) to provide a logo for an upcoming conference. We are open to submissions from students as well.

The brief can be found here:…

Living Below The Line: Day 5: Rapture and recipes.

Posted on May 20, 2011 at 2:19pm 0 Comments

Apparently, the Rapture occurs tomorrow.

Apparently tomorrow is the last day on the planet - at least for the chosen few.

Which kind of makes you wonder, would I have spent the past five days on this challenge had I known this beforehand?

Or if I believed it?
I have to go to the Emergen meetup tonight - that's going to be wonderful, sitting there, not able to eat or drink while everyone else does.

On Day 3, I was able to…

Living below the line - please help out.

Posted on May 16, 2011 at 1:16am 1 Comment

Hi everyone,

This is just a quick note.

From the 16th of May till the 20th, I am going to be living below the line.

What that means is that for five days, I am going to be living on less than $2 AUD per day, food wise. And I am doing it to raise awareness about global hunger and poverty.

I would like to reach my goal of $250 raised to go towards the efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty. If you can, please do donate $2 or more by clicking…
