Helping young professionals succeed in work and life

Getting started on the Emergen

Welcome to the Emergen!

The Emergen is an online community of young innovative leaders who are passionate about making a difference. I look at the Emergen membership list and I’m astounded at the talent we have. We have an awesome list of mentors that are in the community too and it gets me excited. It’s an online community for dynamic, motivated, vivacious young professionals that have ambitious and exciting goals for their careers and community.

How can I get involved?

Treat the Emergen just like you would a networking meeting:

INTRODUCE YOURSELF ON YOUR PROFILE PAGE

This is the initial contact that members will have with you. Take the time to complete your profile so that other members can learn more about you, the leadership/community activities that you are currently involved with and what career and leadership aspirations you have! Don't forget to upload a photo of yourself too.

MANAGING YOUR COMMUNICATION

You control how much or how little email you wish to receive from the Emergen. You will automatically receive a short fortnightly email which is packed with links of all the great resources that have come up on Emergen.

Just like Facebook, you will also receive alerts straight from the community too. If you want to receive the MINIMUM amount of mail, under your settings tab, you can change your email settings and check the following boxes only:-

  • Messages sent to me
  • Messages sent to whole network

However, you can check more and this will keep you up to date with everything that's happening on the Emergen club. Once you have checked these boxes you must click save at the bottom of the email settings page.

You can also choose your preferred activity in your forum discussions, groups and blogs. If you do not wish to receive emails when people add comments you must click stop following at the bottom of the page you are adding comments to. If you decide you want to stop following comments on all discussions go to change your email settings and check the box that says "Clear my Follow List". Once you have done this don't forget to click save at the bottom of the email settings page.

INVITE YOUR FRIENDS

Once you have created your own profile, its time to invite your friends to join the network. Simply click on the "Invite" tab at the top and enter in the email addresses of friends, family & work colleagues.

COMMUNITY RULES

For our blogging and commenting guidelines, please download the following pdf.

Absolutely No Solicitation
Under no circumstances should you contact another member asking for money, help, or offering products or services -- this includes friend requests and comments left of member walls. If you have a cause or organization you'd like people to donate to, you can post a Discussion in the Forum, however you should never approach another member for any sort of loan or to ask them to give you money for your personal use. If we get complaints from other members that you have done so, your account will be removed.

**If you need to make a complaint that a member has solicited you for a loan or money for personal use, please contact Alicia Curtis.

This is Not a Dating Site
If you're looking to find a date, or a mate, or anything of that sort, this is not the place to do it. No erotic, suggestive, or pornographic content will be permitted. It is inappropriate to use this site as a way to make romantic connections. There are sites designed for that, please use them, and do not behave as if this is one of those sites. If you do, we will remove you from our membership.

No Inappropriate Content.
Please keep all content you post in the public forum focused on the topic of helping young professionals achieve their career and civic potential. Content that is NOT APPROPRIATE on Emergen includes, but is not limited to, advertising, material copyrighted by someone who isn't you, any content that is vulgar or obscene or contains adult themes or images, including sexual commentary or imagery. Abusive language, name-calling, insults, harassment, spamming, and/or personal attacks will not be tolerated. Further, members are prohibited from making posts or comments that encourage this type of behavior. ygenclub reserves the right to take appropriate measures, including deleting content, blocking any member from posting to our site and/or revoking the membership for any behavior we determine to be damaging to our community.

Guard Your Personal Information.
Emergen is a public network. Non-members have access to reading posts and profiles on our site. Any person is eligible to join this network. We highly discourage members from posting personal information such as telephone number, home address, or other specific information which may make your location easily discovered by others. If you’d like to share such information with other members, we advise you to do so with great forethought and caution, and only via the private messaging system. Be aware that Emergen cannot be held liable or responsible for any damages incurred as a result of sharing said information.

Please Refrain from Advertising.
It is not appropriate to advertise your business, products or services on the Emergen forum, blog posts or in comments you leave on other member’s profile walls or blog posts. It is acceptable to mention your business on your own profile page online and end your blog posts with your name and website address. In return we ask for you to add the emergen.com.au link on your blog or website so it’s mutually beneficial for both you and the community. Our network administrators will delete any content that is construed as advertising.

If you have a discount you would like to offer to Emergen members, please email the details to Alicia Curtis.

**If you become aware of any content that may violate these guidelines, please promptly REPORT THE ISSUE to Alicia Curtis and we will look into it as quickly as possible.

Who started Emergen?

Alicia Curtis is the founder of the Emergen.

“ I enjoy being around motivated young people who want to excel in their careers but most of all make the world a better place. I wanted to create an online space where dynamic young people could come to share their ideas and basically help each other succeed. Please add me as a friend, I look forward to working together! It’s up to everyone in the community to do their bit and contribute to this vibrant community. Whether it’s writing your own blog, adding cool websites that you’ve come across, add new events or getting involved in the forums, it all helps the Emergen become a awesome place to be.”
