Check it out Ian! I can imagine from your experience you'll find it incredible!

Ian - you constantly amaze me and you are such a great role model/mentor for us on yGen!! I watched the piece on Save this morning and I'm sure it must have been a rewarding experience for you (and the animals!).

Love the concept of going on a 'vocation' trip instead a 'vacation'!

I just got back from Zimbabwe where I did some community service stuff, dehorning rhinos to make them a lot less attractive to poachers who kill them just for their horns. Had a great time at Buni Hills on the shores of Lake Kariba, and helped rescue a herd of water bucks that had been marooned on an island after the lake level rose following heavy rains. Then spent time in Hwange National Park (bigger than Belgium) and had great presentations about the illegal hunting of lion for trophies, and the snaring of African Wild Dogs by poachers. Some of this was shown on Sunrise this morning. If you cannot go to Zimbabwe yet, join the Save Foundation and help save the black rhino from extinction that way! www.savefoundation.org.au

OOOO Singapore -
You must go to the night safari at the zoo - it's amazing! Seeing the wolves howl to the moon. Ahhh. I have been every time I go to Singapore and I think that makes 6...
Shop at Mustafa in Little India for all your touristy stuff, perfumes, jewellery (can haggle). You can get some beautiful dress material there too (for a sari, or something else). Takashimaya is also a great place to shop and eat to your hearts content. There are also these huge electronic super stores if you are up for a new camera etc (can haggle).
I would highly recommend a tea drinking ceremony at a Tea House in Chinatown. There's one nearby the temple in Chinatown.
Clarke Quay and Boat Quay for the night life, restaurants, pubs, clubs.
If you are into clubs there is Zouk, or Ministry of Sound, and a whole lot more.
The Botanic gardens are beautiful also if you have time to wander around.
I think I'm getting carried away just thinking about it...

Any recommendations for Bali, anyone? I'll be staying in Kuta. I'm sure there'll be a bit of relaxing, partying and shopping, but can anyone suggest something unique/culural/fun? :)

KL - it's touristy but a must do is Petronas Twin Towers - take a great photoup at them from the bottom and then head up top and across the skybridge, Merdeka Square for some history and Chinatown at night, if you like birds do the bird park (it is huge), the butterfly park nearby is also good, time permitting head to the Batu caves and up the stairs (272 - better count them) to its Hindu temple, and perhaps try one of the many fish foot spas in KL if you are not too ticklish.

Singapore - don't spend all your time shopping on tourist central Orchard Rd, if you do the Night Safari perhaps don't take the tour and walk it yourself instead, Chinatown & Little India are great places to check out, there are lots of amazing indoor/underground food markets in Singapore - just ask around to find the best ones.

Hong Kong - take the Peak Tram to the Peak, if you didn't do it whilst in KL try out the new WonderFish! spa whilst there, haggle at Stanley Markets, walk the Tsim Sha Shui Promenade early morning and watch/do the Tai Chi, go back to the Peak at night for a great photo op, Star Ferry at least once, do the dim sum thing, take a wooden sampan (boat) across Aberdeen Harbor and eat at a floating restaurant, and take a trip to Lantau Island and the Buddhist monestary up the stairs to the Buddha statue and pretend you are only there for a religious experience but check out the great views whilst there . HK is not unlike Paris and NY - the more you go and look around the more you will find.
