Connecting Australian Youth Organisations with overseas projects

Hi Everyone,

I am needing some assistance from the vast pool of invaluable knowledge and experience of those who can assist me with this project. My team member recently went on a volunteer program to the Philippines and met with the founder and directors of a youth group called AGYLA. They asked for her to find some Australian youth organisations that do similar things, so that the Filipino and Australian organisations can correspond and perhaps supply each other with ideas.

Briefly, some of the projects AGYLA run are:

  • An "Alternative Learning System" which targets youth that have dropped out of high school and are either teens of high school age or are 20-25 years old. The learning system prepares the young people to re-enter high school or attend university;
  • Gender sensitivity awareness programs (in other words, awareness of sexuality, homosexuality, lesbianism, and related issues);
  • HIV Aids prevention through peer counselling;

 Do you know of any Australian youth organisations that are doing similar things? If so, please provide me with their names (and possibly web addresses or contact details). If  you can assist it will be greatly appreciated.

For more information about AGYLA, go to www.evyouth.blogspot.com to read up about them.

Thanks soo much Tiang, this is more then helpful and you are very resourceful.

Hope to meet you at the meetup for Feb next week and welcome to the club.

Thanks Tiang for the mention!

Hey Linh,

If you are still after information, Im happy to have a convo with you, or combine a bit of a list for you on youth orgs.

It seems to be a bit of a trend that is happening at the moment with organisations here in Perth and organisations in other countries seeking simular organisations to gain experience, ideas and collaborate.

One of my Council members is just about to jet set to the U.S and Canada to meet with youth and community organisations, build some relationships and bring back ideas on how we can work better and pass on our ideas too!. so Its great that other places like the Philippines are interested in doing stuff like that!

my contact details have been posted by Tiang, so feel free to flick me an email or give me  a call if you need a hand still.
